Hi there

We have just had a very good day out at Woburn Safari park. We have been several times and always enjoy it, although it can be expensive to get in £17 for adult and and £13 for Kids.

However this voucher that you can just print out makes it very good value: http://www.discoverwoburn.co.uk/familyfun/voucher.htm it gets the kids in for free with an adult if the adult buys a "passport ticket" which is £20 each and gets you into the safari park and the abbey (one entry for each but they can be separate days in the same year)

So the full price for a family of 4 would be £60, but now you can get 4 in for £40 cool.

The Safari bit lasts about 1 hour (depending on how fast everyone goes and how many bears are on the road) however after the safari there is loads more to do with play grounds, traditional zoo type things and animal shows. Also you can do as many laps of the safari as you like

I like it here as the animals have more space the some other zoos. Even the parrots are allowed to fly around during the show...

Enjoy

Tony

P.S. We had a spare Tesco "Great Days Out Voucer" which we used as well, which I am not sure you are mean't to be able to do but if you manage to do that as well then it is a very cheap day out!!!!

P.P.S. Yes I am a tight git....

Our family visited Woburn Safari Park yesterday for the first time and we had a great time.

The drive through Safari was great fun and the animals do come extremely close to the car. One lion was actually licking and biting on the wing mirror of the VW Golf in front of us and it was funny to see Sue and girls getting distinctly nervous and shrinking back into the car.

We did the drive through twice (you are allowed to go through as many times as you like) because we all were desperate to get monkeys on the roof (result second time around Razz ) and it transpired that the other cars had more success because they were waving fruit at them in the windows! Confused

The walk around safari was good too and the animals were very happy to interact closely with the visitors, especially the spider monkeys and the Lemurs who seemed to like a good fuss and belly rub. It is nice to get so up-close and personal with the animals as this is not the case in most zoos these days.

The birds of prey were well presented and there was a sealion show too which the children loved.

All in all a great day out although we decided to eat in their restaurants and this was quite expensive. Next time will be a picnic me thinks.

If you book in advance on-line the family ticket for 2x children and 2x adults is £50.00 and all attractions are included in that fee (not the usual trick of extra cost once you are in). If however you pay on the door it is £53.00 and we thought this was pretty good value for money really.

Here are a few phone pics to give a feel for the place.

I agree, a good day out, although I also think a picnic is a better option as the food was a bit iffy. The highlight of our visit was watching my husbands face as the monkeys played with his Mercedes badge

To be fair, I took the aerial off my car as a precaution but the monkeys showed no interest in damaging anything on our vehicle or the ones around us...even when being taunted with bananas through the glass. Neutral The poor little fella just sat there on his wing mirror and waited patiently for a meal that never happened.

One thing that really did make me giggle though was the politically correct sign on the way into the Lion enclosure that said the following;

"Today the lions have been given a deer carcass to eat that was the result of a road accident"

This would be fine if it were not for the fact that the sign itself was a professionally painted sign along with the Woburn logo etc and the paint was peeling off due to the fact it had been outside for what must have been a number of years. "Today" my arse, it is clear that this is what they eat every day (being next to Woburn's huge deer farm) but who in their right mind would complain about lions eating meat for goodness sake? They are not that fond of tofu or Quorn I hear. Rolling Eyes Laughing

(Speaking of food, do take sweets for the kids because the ones they sell in the shop there were ludicrously over-expensive. Traditional sweets like bon-bons and pineapple chunks in little 150g bags were £3.00 per bag!!!)

How old does a baby have to be to appreciate being taken to the zoo or other attractions? How old is a baby before his or her eyesight, curiousity and comprehension are up to speed to enable the baby to appreciate the zoo, a theme park or a museum?

The last time we were there, the monkeys ripped a load of trim off the car in front. Def taking Mrs McDuff's car when we go there next time.
